Concept bzU

This concept explores how families interact with vehicles when Level 5 autonomous driving becomes possible. This project is the culmination of research into future trends of vehicle technologies, human attitudes towards computing, interior architecture, and furniture, all distilled into a vehicle interior.

Family Mode

In it’s default configuration, all seats are facing the center to promote interpersonal connection. The center arms rests include an extra extendable surface that meets at the center, creating a table for family activities.

The interior features diffuse illumination inspired by wooden laths common in Japanese architecture. And though it’s interior is streamlined for a calming presence, technology is still embedded to its core. Interior surfaces can receive projected images, perfect for family movie nights.

Personal Space

For moments where passengers want time to themselves, the seats can move and rotate into their own corner. ach passenger is treated as equal where each zone is identical in it’s layout. This division allows each person to have their own space for personal items.

Storage for your personal devices is integrated into the the cabin as a sculptural element. In here, your devices can wirelessly charge and sync with the vehicle’s computer.

Content from your phone is projected onto the vehicle’s surfaces. Projected content avoids the issue of having physical display panels fight for your attention when not in use.

For more focus, passengers can raise a dividing screen. This partition prevents distraction from your peripheral vision and prevents wandering eyes from looking in on your space

Thoughtful touches

In line with Japanese sensibilities and modern furniture design, seating surfaces are lined with fabric. Each chair offers full sized seating for every passenger that wraps around their head to offer directional audio. This allows each person to experience their own music in their own environment.
